The Reds insist meetings last year were informal

Liverpool owners Fenway Sports Group insist the club is not for sale following reports of a failed £2 billion ($2.6bn) takeover attempt from an Abu Dhabi consortium earlier this year.

A report in the Daily Mail on Thursday stated that Sheikh Khaled Bin Zayed Al Nehayan, the cousin of Manchester City owner Sheikh Mansour, approached representatives of the Reds’ American owners in late 2017, with a view to a world-record buy-out of the Anfield club.

While Liverpool chairman Tom Werner did meet with Mansour's managing director, Goal understands that the meeting was informal and that Sheikh Khaled’s “proposal of interest” was handled, as all such proposals are, by Allen and Company, the New York-based investment bank hired by FSG to advise on numerous issues, including investment enquiries.

Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago Alcantara is a target for Real Madrid in the next two transfer windows, according to Don Balon.

The former Barcelona man finds himself out of the Bundesliga champions' plans and was hoping for a return to his old club, but Arturo Vidal's signing makes that unlikely.

Madrid boss Julen Lopetegui wants to add Thiago, and Florentino Perez is willing to grant him that wish, possibly before the close of the summer window, though the president would prefer it to happen in January.

Sevilla are hoping to land Anthony Martial from Manchester United before the transfer window closes, claims Marca. 

The La Liga club are looking for a big-name signing to excite their fans, with PSG's Julian Draxler also reportedly on their radar. 

Martial started and played 60 minutes in United's 3-2 loss to Brighton on Sunday.

City to reject Besiktas approach for Delph
